San Diego Burial at Sea has a variety of biodegradable
urns that may be used for either ash scattering at sea or
for burial in the earth. All materials used in the making of our
biodegradable urns are non-toxic and environmentally safe.
The urns are environmentally friendly and completely dissolve over
time depending on environmental conditions. The Cremation Association
of North America (CANA) has determined that the standard capacity
of a single urn should be 200 cubic inches. All of our standard urns
exceed that requirement.
Urns are not necessary for scattering, but are an
option some families wish as they eliminate the potential for blow-back.
There are several companies that produce such urns. They are sustainably produced in a variety of natural materials, including recycled paper, salt, gelatin and sand. The paper type urns will float will float briefly and sink gracefully.
Prices range from less than $100 to around $500. Although they were designed for water burial, all of these urns can also be used for earth burial. We often use biodegradable urns from In the Light Urns, a California company, so feel free to browse their site. If you find something you like, let us order it for you can extend to you a 10% discount.

After the ashes are scattered it is not possile to retrieve them,
so with ash scattering some families also choose to keep a portion
of the ashes in various forms of keepsake
urns.
